Petticoats and Crinolines in Films
Please take notice: These films mostly contain lovely visions of bouffant skirts, particularly of the 50's style, and MIGHT show peeks of petticoats. Very few show full petti-views (these will be noted). We are also now adding films which feature classic crinolines and petticoat as well. You might also review the corsetfilm list located at www.staylace.com/films/indexfiles/a/index.html
Many of the corset-era productions show gowns and petticoats as well!
Any rating comments obviously refer to the quality of the film vis-à-vis frou-frou

| 1962 | LOLITA--
Lyon lays across the hotel bed
and the camera actually positions itself behind her so that we see her
beautifully poufy petticoat! Later, we see Lyon’s petticoats sitting
across a side chair! Ms. Lyon has several nice scenes (and the high
school dance is worth seeing), but
another one is where she seats herself in a wooden rocking chair to eat a
sandwich.
Low level camera angle catches the scenery here!
Especially nice is when she lays on the bed on her stomach, and the
camera angle is from the rear!
Review by Shelley She is crystal clear in Tessy's eyes as the ideal young teenager ('nymphet'), doing devastating justice to a bouffant dress and tight belt! |

| 1941 | LOUISIANA PURCHASE-- Lots of gowns with hoops; the fashion parade is just wonderful, with some marvelous 'Southern Belle' dresses, in all their glory. There's a scene where Vera is trying to seduce a senator and she's wearing a beautiful dress with a full display of pettis when she starts to dance. Also, the Mardi Gras ball has lots of frillies, with Vera in a ballerina costume that has a full set of pettis for a tutu-- Review by "Ace" | VERA ZORINA | |||

Review by
Shelley ...a beautiful powder blue chiffon (lined with taffeta) cocktail gown; it has a full calf length skirt, shawl collar neckline lined in white lace, double breasted buttons on bodice front, and pettis of pale blue net -- lovely rustle of the dress, but not overloud. Other costumes: pleated skirt of camel with pink pettis, powder blue skirt with white pettis. -- Review by Dave Barber StillClip |
