BB Bloomer:

"Till very recently, I knew nothing about 'Caporales'. They seem to be carnival dances very popular in South America.
Girls will wear 'Mini Polleras', a kind of short bouffant twirling skirt or dress, rather sensual!
 Here is a fine example."

For those of you who remember the Corvair (and its notoriety), Crinolyn  has found a 1960 commercial featuring a VERY bouffant-y' little girl.

loaded with them; some are packed with cheesecake. Here’s a Scopitone featuring Debbie Reynolds - nice flashes for Pond lovers."

[Anonymous]:

"Yesterday on Facebook I saw a post from a female friend, she posted two dresses and a blue petticoat asking her friends which everyone preferred for her as The Mother Of The Groom.

"I actually preferred the other dress a bit more, but both were nice; the original post had been deleted by the time I went back, but she is fairly certain this will be the dress and petticoat."

Elizabeth, regarding Denise B.'s query on 7 Aug:

Denise (and others) -  First, for the two pieces of nylon net:  What Ms. Lon was attempting to describe was that one piece of nylon netting was heavier' (meaning 'thicker') than the other piece.  Nylon netting can be purchased at any fabric shop; the sales people can assist you in determining the 'heaviness' of the nylon netting the store has in stock.  You will need to purchase two separate pieces of nylon netting, one piece being 'heavier' (meaning 'thicker') than the other.

Secondly, for cutting a full circle:  There are various ways to cut a full circle.  No one way is better than another.  What works for you is what is best for you.  The 'full circle' means the circumference of the nylon netting.  Keep in mind you will also be cutting a hole in the very center of the full circles of nylon netting.  The hole will be your waistband.

Thirdly, length depending on height:  The length will be measured from your waist to how far below your waist you wish the hem of your nylon netting to be.  Your overall height will also be a determining factor.  (After all, you don't want the hem to drag on the floor!)  Ms. Lon was 5 feet, 6 inches in height.  Your height plus how long you wish the nylon netting to be, waist to hem, is what Ms. Lon meant when she wrote "length depending on height."

...and Tina F. adds:

"This blogger has a great tutorial on how to make petticoats; perhaps this will be of assistance to Denise B."

Denise B. reacts:

"Number one rule of petticoats, NEVER store them in a plastic bag. (Regarding how to organize a petticoat collection, 11 Aug). It will make them go flat, and we don't want flat petticoats!"

ED: No,  not good for storage, but spray starch is the antidote.  We should have read more carefully.

"I'm in love with the page about Alice Lon's petticoats, and am excited to make one for myself!  Can you clarify the first part of the instructions for me?
They're a little vague.  It's the first paragraph, where it says to cut a full circle with two thicknesses of nylon net, length depending on height.
I confess I have no idea what it's talking about.  I understand the next set of instructions."

ED:  Can anyone help? - We, too, are at a loss.

David Barber:

"I spotted on YouTube, a colour photo of my pop star Helen Shapiro, taken on a TV studio programme called Thank Your Lucky Stars, this would be
about 1962. The song is 'Tell Me What He Said.' The dress, full skirted, is dark in blue satin and it has a sliver mesh net overlay on the skirt, it looks
very nice. I think the song as it plays, shows photos of Helen in sequence.  you might be able to grab and down load that photo as it appears.
Anyway with best wishes  David  david.barber434@gmail.com

a few of which, Gown 5143, Gown 5144 and Gown 5148 would be worthy of the petticoat in the video."

unable to continue any further. Perhaps in the future we can continue this when time and money will allow.'

Are classic shapes still in?  Yes!

"One minute in gorgeous  skirts  (yards and yards)  would cause convulsions and choke one up to wear -

Video

Then, at 10, 11, and & 13 minutes, and then keep drooling to end!

Have you seen the city chic dresses for skirts to put several pettis under?  For us who need some shaping, these are an excuse for Merry
Widows and girdles or corsets, suspenders and hose and heels and severe glamour beneath to hold the likes of their 'blown rose dress' and
several other earlier flared dresses of heavier satin type fabric.  Also make other good stuff, although not in the quality range of the likes of
Terri,  Jon, Tadashi, Schoji, Jovani and others.

"Furthemore, Chinese sites have a catastrophic mass of stuff of a convulsive nature, with one going mindless with desire to buy; one needs an
aircraft hanger size wardrobe as you cannot throw out what you have purchased!!!"
